Fall 2023 Directing Apprenticeship
/CSz Philadelphia, home of ComedySportz, Philly’s longest-running improv comedy show, is seeking experienced improvisers for its new Director Apprenticeship program.
Our Director Apprenticeship Program is a system for training new Improv Show Directors. The program offers “on-the-job” training during a season of our Long Form Teamz program, which performs in the Improv Double Feature. Each season of the Double Feature showcases two teams, each directed by an experienced director chosen by the Artistic Director. One apprentice will be assigned with each director.
This fall, the Long Form Teamz program will be producing two new shows, with auditions in August 2023, rehearsals in September 2023, and shows running from October 2023 through January 2024:
Every first and second Friday from October 2023 through January 2024, these teams will perform two brand-new shows based on classic long form improv forms in THE IMPROV DOUBLE FEATURE:
Incantation, directed by Siobhan O'Hara, which takes a spooky spin on the Harold form, inspired by the incantation opening, allowing for fun and ghoulish characters to thrive. This classic long form structure, combined with short form game play, will take audience suggestions and turn them into a thematic and theatrical event full of fantastical fun, creepy characters, and spook-tacular scene work!
Don't I Know You?, directed by Mary Carpenter, will explore the six degrees of connection between characters using a combination of the La Ronde and Slacker forms. This show will dive into how the people we know rearrange the molecules of who we are, who we meet, and what we do. The goal is to discover faceted characters, relationships, and scenes and to trust, without pushing, that the chaos will reveal its order.
Apprentices will be selected before auditions. Deadline to submit is Friday, July 14th. Click below for more details and to apply.
