Meet The Improv Teams of the CCC (Part 3)
/CSz Philadelphia - Home of ComedySportz is proud to be hosting the Collegiate Comedy Challenge, an improv comedy competition to determine who will be the Funniest Collegiate Improv Team in the Tristate Area.
Four teams compete this Friday at 8PM. The winner will immediately go to the 10PM Championship Round to face the previous week’s winners. The Lighted Fools from Bryn Mawr College / Haverford College took the prize in Round 1. Drexel Football Team from Drexel University won Round 2. Who will join them in the Championship Round on March 22 @ 10PM?
Vertigo-go - Swarthmore College
The group’s philosophy is “‘Prov first, ask questions later!” Their style of improv is freeform, and leans more towards the absurd than the realistic.
“Our improv is less about linear narratives and plots, and more about giving each member’s personality and comedic style a chance to shine onstage.”
What inspires Vertigo-go’s members to do improv is each other. “The best feeling as an improviser is making the rest of your team laugh.”
The members of Vertigo-go are majoring in everything from education to theater to computer science. Outside the classroom, they are teachers, artists, and climate activists. Performs Friday March 22nd @ 8PM.
Playground Champions - University of the Arts
Playground Champions was established in 2016. Before every show, they sing a silly song about Hamburgers and end with a High School Musical jump to hype themselves up. Playground Champions not only give it their all when they perform, they also give it their all off stage. They have raised money for many charities (such as hurricane relief), conducted food and clothing drives, and this past Christmas “adopted a family” using their our own money to buy gifts for a wonderful local family in need of a fun and memorable Christmas. Performs Friday March 22nd @ 8PM.
Just Wing It - Saint Joseph’s University
“Our team is very involved in other on campus activities at St. Joe's! Many of our team members are involved in activities such as participating in Greek life, performing with our school's student run theater group, giving tours, rowing on the crew team, and participating in service on campus.
We have a very fun running tradition where, before every show, we set up the microphones and then they never work!” Performs Friday March 22nd @ 8PM.
Without a Net - University of Pennsylvania
University of Pennsylvania’s Without a Net was founded in 1984. “Yes, and...” is important both on and offstage. Improv teaches us to face life’s problems in an open minded and accepting way. When asked what inspires them to perform, they said: “We all didn’t get enough attention as small children.” Performs Friday March 22nd @ 8PM.
